Wilson Todd to Factory Honda for 2022!
3 x Australian Champion Wilson Todd has signed with Factory Honda for 2022 and beyond. Wilson has spent the last two years racing in the highly competitive MX2 World Championship.
“I enjoyed my time in Europe and I was proud of the results we achieved against the factory team. I finished as high as fourth in a race, and we had a top five overall finish and several top ten’s” said Todd.
Todd was faced with a difficult decision to make at the end of the championship because he ages out of the MX2 class.
“There is an age limit in the MX2 class and I turn 24 before next year’s championship starts which makes me ineligible. I was faced with some hard decisions and in the end the best decision for me was to come home and race,” said Todd.
Director of Honda Racing Australia, Yarrive Konsky signed an agreement with Todd earlier in the year with exemptions that allowed Todd to stay in Europe if the right team offered him a 450 ride.
“I wanted Wilson; he is an exceptional rider. We didn’t enter discussions with any other MX2 riders. I patiently waited because Honda believed Wilson was their only choice to contend for a championship on their new CRF250R”. said Konsky.
Todd has proven to be one of the best Australian riders. In the past 7 years he has won 3 championships and finished runner-up twice. He has also proven himself on the world stage. Tony Hinton, Honda Australia’s General Manager of Sales welcomed Wilson Todd to Honda’s Factory Team.
“Wilson Todd completes an impressive line-up for Honda. Wilson is a welcomed surprise as he was achieving great results overseas in the World MX2 Championship and we were unsure if he was going to return. He proved competitive against the world best this season and we are fortunate to have him racing our new 2022 CRF250R in next year’s Australian Motocross and Supercross Championship,” said Hinton.
2022 marks Wilson’s first year with Honda and the Queenslander is looking forward to racing with the championship winning team.
“They have a great program with great people, and they are a proven team,” said Todd.
Wilson still hopes to compete overseas and will patiently wait to see if there are any opportunities to do some racing in America next year in between the Australian Motocross Championship.
“My focus is to win the MX2 and SX2 Australian Championship, but I hope to do a race or two overseas through Yarrive’s contacts and team internationally” concluded Todd.
