Honda Racing produces positive results in round 1 of Australia’s all new Professional Motocross Championship!

MX 2 Class
Rider – Kyle Webster

Qualifying: 1st
Race 1: 1st
Race 2: 1st
Overall” 1st

Kyle Webster, the teams MX2 rider delivered a searing lap to claim a sensational pole that was 2 seconds faster than his competition.

“My Delcon Civil Honda Racing CRF250R powered me to first in qualifying and I felt comfortable straight away” said Webster

Webster went on to win moto one and moto two, however in moto two he had to remount following a crash near the halfway mark.

“I am so glad we got two wins today. I did not make it easy on myself in moto two as I dropped my bike near the halfway mark. Overall, it was a near perfect day, and I cannot thank the team and our sponsors enough. It’s been almost two year’s since we last raced a national and I am glad the championship is underway” finished Webster.

MX1 Class

Riders – Brett Metcalfe and Kirk Gibbs

Qualifying: Brett Metcalfe 3rd and Kirk Gibbs 4th
Race 1: Brett Metcalfe 1st and Kirk Gibbs 5th
Race 2: Brett Metcalfe 5th and Kirk Gibbs 3rd
Overall: Brett Metcalfe 2nd and Kirk Gibbs 4th

Brett Metcalfe and Kirk Gibbs proved that their all new CRF 450R’s were competitive.

“I new from practice to qualifying that our bikes were competitive” said Metcalfe.

Metcalfe came from behind to win moto 1, the elated 36-year-old was pleased with his result, although moto two proved more challenging.

“The new Honda is amazing, and I was super happy to deliver Honda the first win of the year. My Mongrel Boots Honda Racing CRF450R is working great, the team is working great, and it is a fantastic start to our season. I messed up race two by crashing but there are too many positives to take from the weekend for me to worry about that, onwards and upwards from here” finished Metcalfe.

Kirk Gibbs day did not go to plan, but he remains positive following his 3rd place finish in moto two.

“It was an ok weekend, and we gathered a lot of data that will help us be better prepared for round 2. We bagged a bunch of points and sit 4th overall. We will be better prepared for round 2” said Gibbs.

MX 3 Class

Rider – Ben Novak
Qualifying: 2nd
Race 1: 4th
Race 2: 5th
Overall: 5th

Qualifying went well for team’s youngest recruit.

“My goal for the day was to be inside the top 5 in qualifying and racing. I have been recovering from a shoulder injury, so when I heard I had qualified 2nd I was really happy” said Novak.

Novak fought hard in both races and made some great passes on his way to 5th overall.

“I know where I need to improve, the bike is solid, and the team worked great. We have three weeks until round 2 and I will be working hard to get on the podium.” Finished Novak.

Notes

  • Emma Milesevic finished 35th and 33rd in the MX2 class.
  • Honda had three riders inside the top 10 in MX1.
  • Crowd was at capacity due to the Coronavirus.
  • LIVE TV has been well received.
  • It’s been 20 months since we last raced an Australian Motocross Championship.
  • Ride Red riders Jai Walker and Joben Baldwin finished 9th and 11th overall respectively in the MX1 class.
