Honda Racing sweeps all three classes in round 1 of the AUSX!

Round 1 of the Australian Supercross Championship was witnessed by a near-sell out crowd in Adelaide, South Australia. The Factory Honda Racing Team swept all three classes on their way to five podium finishes.
Dean Wilson rode brilliantly, executing with confidence as he captured his first win in Australia.

“I felt good all day, I am glad I flew in early to get settled, everything went well and this is a great start to the championship for Honda, the team and I. I can’t remember the last time I had the red plate, and to do it with my family here is even more special,” said Wilson.

Dean’s teammate Justin Brayton claimed second overall, giving Honda first and second in the premier class. Brayton has only relinquished the red plate once in 7 years and is already focused on round 2.

“Dean rode well, I said it all night, you need a start in these small arenas, once Dean got a gap it was hard to reel him in. My Boost Mobile Honda was solid, I just didn’t execute my start as well as I needed to in the main. I want to congratulate him and the team for their win and I will take a few days to get settled in the Sunshine Coast before knuckling down and preparing for round 2”, said Brayton

The team’s third 450 rider, Kyle Webster had a mixed day of results.

“7^th in the main isn’t where I wanted to be.  I got t-boned hard by another rider and fell in the main. I dusted myself off and charged through the pack but it was a challenge.  I know I can be on the podium and I will regroup and focus on round 2”, said Webster.

The 250 Pro class was dominated by Boost Mobile Honda’s Max Anstie.  Riding with a wave of confidence the Brit got the holeshot in the main and rode away from his competition.

“It was a great night; the team is working well and my bike feels so strong. The crowd was really in to it and my family and I have enjoyed being in Adelaide”, said Anstie.

Max’s teammate, Terrafirma Honda’s Wilson Todd rode conservatively in the final on his way to third overall.

“These small indoor arenas are like a fishing expedition, you can have all of the equipment, the right bait and catch nothing.  One small mistake can ruin your night. I rode to the conditions and got out safe with a decent bag of points.  The bikes are great, the team and I are working well and I am already turning my attention to round 2”, said Todd.

Honda continued their successful night with a win in the development SX3 class with Parker Ross.

Parker Ross, racing the Polyflor Honda CRF250R raced a calculated race, leaving the pass for the win to the last lap and last corner. This is Parker’s first trip overseas and he has thoroughly enjoyed it.

“This has been a supercool experience and the win is a bonus.  The team has been very welcoming and I was blown away by the bike, the team’s facility and the people. I cant wait for round 2”, said Ross.
