Factory Honda Impresses in Pre-Season Race!

Honda showcased its dominance by clinching victories in 7 out of 8 pro races across the MX1 and MX2 classes at the MX OPEN, marking the event’s third successful year. Conceived to foster participation and inclusivity in the aftermath of Covid, the MX OPEN featured over 190 riders competing in 15 classes.

The promoter’s commitment to equality was evident in providing equal prize money for professional men and women. In the MX2 class, Brodie Connolly secured three out of four race wins, with his teammate Noah Ferguson, claiming the other race victory. Noah’s mixed results, resulted in 3rd overall. Alex Larwood, the third Factory Honda rider, demonstrated consistency to claim second place overall. The result bodes well for Factory Honda as they gear up for the upcoming MX Nationals.

Brodie Connolly – Polyflor Honda:
“I am satisfied with the weekend, but I know there is
a need to enhance my speed and fitness, especially sprint speed. We will be working on this over the next six weeks. Today proved the testing has gone well as the track was challenging,” said Connolly.

Alex Larwood – Froth Honda:
“It went as planned, in fact, it went better. This is my first race in nearly 12 months, and I felt solid. The bike is working well, and everything is moving in the direction we have planned,” said Larwood.

Noah Ferguson – Boost Honda:
“I can’t afford the mistakes I was making, but this is why we race the pre-season races. We tested a bunch of things, and I am comfortable with the changes we made. The last race was solid, and we have a good base,” said Ferguson.

In the MX1 class, Wilson Todd demonstrated his speed by qualifying first. While his results of 2, 2, 1, 3 earned him second place overall, it didn’t fully reflect the team’s achievements in testing and preparation for the upcoming MX Nationals.

Terrafirma Honda Racing:
“We are better than where we thought we would be. I am on a training cycle that doesn’t have me fully conditioned for full motos, and we knew this going into the weekend. Instead, we used the event for testing and further conditioning. We are all happy with the result, and it’s a great base as we continue to prepare for the first round in 7 weeks,” said Todd.

Kyle Webster – Boost Honda:

Todd’s teammate, Kyle Webster, demonstrated impressive speed on the track. However, a crash in turn one of race one and a mechanical issue in race three hindered his chances for the overall victory. The Boost Honda rider went 3, 1, DNF, 1 for 4th overall.

“I am happy and disappointed at the same time. I know everyone says it, but the bike is the best it’s been in 3 years. All of the testing, learning, and improving we have done over the years have come together. Hitting a rider who lost control into turn one affected my result in race one. I managed to come from last to third and was catching the leaders. In the third race, we had an electrical issue that wasn’t the team’s fault, causing us not to finish. We will take the positives and keep preparing for the nationals next month.
