Metcalfe still on the mend heading into Murray Bridge
Brett Metcalfe will be racing this weekend at round 4 and 5 of the MX Nationals in Murray Bridge, despite undergoing surgery on his badly broken finger only 17 days ago.
Metcalfe went under the knife in Melbourne where a plate and nine screws were needed to repair the fracture to his finger. Initially the team and Metcalfe had hoped to avoid surgery until the mid-season break but round three took more of a toll than expected.
“We needed to get surgery, there were floating fragments and it had broken in several places. I am confident the surgery has stabilised the finger but I still have a ways to go before its 100%.” Metcalfe said.
Metcalfe has not been able to ride between rounds but will line up tomorrow in an effort to ensure he gets points on the board.
“There is a lot of racing left and every point counts towards a Championship. The team and I have spoken and we will try and race this weekend. Our goals are to earn as many points as we can and race for wins in the second half of the Championship,”
Metcalfe continued; “This situation is not ideal but we will keep pushing, we turned things around last year coming away with 2ndin the Supercross so we hope to do the same here.”
